Opened in 1980, Beaver Creek Resort is the newest major ski area in Colorado, but its inspiration is clearly old-world.  With an upscale, family-friendly vibe that consciously seeks to mimic great European resorts like St. Moritz and Cortina, Beaver Creek's current advertising tagline is "Not exactly roughing it."  The mountain's terrain varies from beginner to expert, and in the three distinct base villages (Beaver Creek Village, Bachelor Gulch, and Arrowhead Village) you can expect to find trendy restaurants, nightlife, and shopping — with a high-end price tag.  If you like the looks of Beaver Creek Resort but find its lodging options out of your price range, consider staying in Avon or Edwards instead.
